About 300 years ago, groups of peasant farmers from Germany migrated to southeastern Pennsylvania. They included people from Amish, Mennonites, Lutherans and other Reformed groups. Over time, these settlers became known as "Pennsylvania Dutch".

Like other immigrants to the United States, they brought their old world language, dress, traditions and art with them. Mystical bird and floral designs graced their birth and marriage certificates, family Bibles, quilts, and some furniture. Farmers also decorated their large German style bank barns with colorful geometric patterns.

We have found such wonderful influences in traditional Pennsylvania Dutch designs. Our cuttings do not strictly follow the meanings in the symbology of the Pennsylvania Dutch Hexes (the term used to describe the various designs), but are inspired greatly by them.
